Review
Tuesday 10th September 2024 St.Bartholomew with Brookfield lodge No 5077 at Brookfield Hall in Westhoughton was taken back to the 18th Century with a fantastic Masonic Catechism c1740.
‘A Dialogue between Simon played by Bro Aaron Garner, a town Mason and Philip played by Bro Hiten Patel a Travelling Mason, presented by members of the lodge plus 2 visiting brethren from The Lodge of Silent Temple No.126 in East Lancashire.
The lodge was opened in due form with the normal business being taken care of before being called off, once called off the lodge was illuminated by a projected fire for effect, and the candles lit on the table in the middle of the room. Our guest masons left to get changed into appropriate 18th century clothing during which time the play was introduced by the worshipful master W.Bro Paul Spann and Senior Warden W.Bro Keith Fear P.Pr.S.G.D. then the order to extinguish the lights was given by the Worshipful Master and the main characters entered and commenced with the play. The acting parts were interspersed with explanations of what was happening by 4 members of the lodge The WM, SW, acting JW W.Bro Mark Stephen Gregory P.A.G.D.C. and Treasurer W.Bro Michael Turner P.Pr.A.G.Purs.
The performance was half an hour then was all over, the lodge called back on and the summons followed till closing, everybody thoroughly enjoyed the performance, and during the risings all respondent’s congratulated all involved with the work and especially the two main characters Aaron and Hiten.
The festive board was a happy affair with £115 raised for charity at the raffle.
With thanks to W.Bro Martin Paul Roche PSGD, PAProvGM (East Lancs) for the kind permission to use his work.
